SDIA, together with other industry representative bodies, attended a Roundtable Meeting convened by Treasury regarding proposals to regulate Credit Rating and Research providers.   The project is being run jointly by Treasury and ASIC. 

The present stage is a fact finding and familiarisation exercise, at the conclusion of which a Discussion Paper will be issued for comment.  The scope of the project as presently articulated is to determine whether there is a need to regulate entities who provide credit ratings and/or product research relating to unlisted products, and if so, which model of regulation was to be preferred. 

 

Treasury indicated that further regulation of equities research is not presently considered to fall within the scope of the project.
