Introduction to Practitioner Membership

In November 2000 at the SDIA Conference, the Securities & Derivatives Industry Association launched individual membership, marking the start of the movement towards a recognised Profession.

The SDIA is the peak industry body for the industry representing over 98% of all transactions undertaken on licensed equity markets (on a payments basis) and representing over 8,000 employed persons. The SDIA strives to promote the high standards, skills and knowledge of industry practitioners.

SDIA believes it is important for the industry to support the movement toward a recognised profession and to demonstrate to regulators and clients alike that our members are committed to providing high standards of professionalism and service.

SDIA Practitioner Members will be recognised as professional industry practitioners. In the future, the attainment of a recognised professional status will also provide individuals with increased recognition from clients and employers.

The SDIA submitted an application to be recognised as a profession to the NSW Professional Standards Council in December 2004.

SDIA also offers its Practitioner Members other value-added services. By joining as an SDIA Practitioner Member, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of the profession on issues such as codes of conduct and professional ethics, and to assist with influencing policy formulation and the regulation of our industry. Have your say!

Practitioner membership will support and promote your professional standing by:

  • Recognising your status through membership category and post-nominal;
  • Access to Continuing Professional Development support as required by RG 146, and at a discount;
  • Access to ongoing Continuing Professional Development participation, as part of SDIA specialist committees and advisory panels;
  • Access to SDIA's education programs designed to enhance your industry knowledge, and at a discount;
  • Participation in specialist committees and advisory panels;
  • Opportunity to attend the annual conference and at a significant discount;
  • Regular industry specific information, via the SDIA newsletter;
